Steps to Connect the Domain with Your System #
1. Open the Domain Panel
- Go to the “Sites” section in the left sidebar.
- At the top of the page, click on “Connected Domains”.
2. Add Domain
- Click on the ‘Add Domain’ button.
- This will start the process of connecting your domain to the system.
3. Select Domain Type
- You’ll be given two options: free domain or custom domain.
- Choose a custom domain and enter your domain name.
- Click ‘Next’ to continue.
4. Select Services
- By default, Website Hosting will be enabled.
- To enable Email Service, check the email box and enter your preferred email address.
Enabling email services will not interfere with your existing email setup.
- Click ‘Next’ when you’re done.
5. Choose a Faster CDN (Optional)
- You will be prompted to choose a faster CDN for $5/month.
- Click ‘No, Thank You’ unless you want to enable this feature.
6. Collect DNS Records
- The system will now generate the DNS records you’ll need to add to your Afrihost (or other registrar) account.
Types of DNS Records #
- DNS Records for Web Hosting:
- These will usually be the first two records.
- The first one is an ‘A’ type record used to point your domain to the web server.
- DNS Records for Email Service:
- These are usually the last three records.
- All of them will be CNAME records.
You can ignore records related to services you don’t intend to use.
Steps to Add DNS Records in Afrihost (via Ionos-style control panel) #
1. Log in to Afrihost
- Go to your Afrihost control panel.
- Click on the ‘Hosting’ section and choose your domain.
2. Open DNS Settings
- Click on ‘Hosting Settings’.
- Then select ‘DNS Editor’.
3. Add a New Record
- Click ‘Create New Record’.
4. Add ‘A’ Record for Web Hosting
- Type: A
- Host Name: @
- Points To: 185.93.1.243
- TTL: 1 hour
- Leave other values as default, then click ‘Add Record’.
5. Add ‘CNAME’ Records for Email
- Type: CNAME
- Host Record: em3206
- Points To: u22813504.wl005.sendgrid.net
- TTL: 4 hours
- Repeat for other CNAME records provided by the system.
6. Wait for DNS Propagation
- Once all records are added, wait for 24–48 hours for the DNS changes to take effect globally.
